To
read, for all of us, is to reach for castles in the clouds. As an author,
Jeff Savage is dedicated to inspiring children to read. He wants children
to find joy in reading, to learn and grow from reading, to love reading.
Please take a moment to let Jeff show you some of his favorite reading
and writing sites.

The California Library
Association strives to promote and improve library services, librarianship,
and the library community. That is why I am a member of the CLA. I
support our libraries. So should you.

American Library Association
Libraries are quiet and calm, yet filled with sound and energy. When
I stand among the library's shelves, I am awed by the power of the knowledge
that surrounds me. And to feel this power, I need only reach for a book
and read.
One of my favorite organizations is the American Library Association.
It's main purpose is to develop and promote services that will enhance
learning and ensure access to information for all. The ALA defends
our right to read, write, and speak freely as guaranteed by the First
Amendment. That is why I am a member of the American
Library Association.

Society of Children's Bookwriters
and Illustrators
Knowledge becomes light only when it is shared. There is an organization
that illuminates the world of children's literature. It is the Society
of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators.
The SCBWI acts as a network for the exchange of knowledge between writers,
illustrators, editors, publishers, agents, librarians, educators, booksellers,
and others involved with literature for young people. The SCBWI offers
conferences, grants, awards, and informational publications. With more
than 12,000 members worldwide, in over 70 regions, the SCBWI is the
largest children's writing organization in the world.
As a professional author dedicated to children's literature, I am
a member of the Society
of Children's Bookwriters and Illustrators.

Independent Booksellers
America has many voices. For these voices to be heard through books,
there must be many publishers. And just as there is a need for small
publishing houses amid the giants, so, too, there is a need for independent
booksellers.
Bookselling giants are everywhere from busy city street corners
to the internet. Big chains have a place in our world; after all,
they are in the good business of providing literature for young people.
But independent booksellers have their place, too. They give us more
choices. More voices. There is room for us all, but only if you help
make it so. Support your local independent
bookseller.
